His Church at Loess Hills has started a new "liturgy", which means "public service". We gather to "work" and answer "prayers", i.e. applications, appeals and requests, of the families in the Congregation, of fellow Congregations in the network and the strangers and foreigners sojourning with us. Sunday May 22, 2011 was the first day that we inagurated our new liturgy by answering the "prayer" of the Mosher family for help with digging up their back yard so they can put in a larger garden.

Phyllis and Bobby grilled hamburgers and cheeseburgers, others brought potato salad, chips and baked beans. Everyone brought garden implements. A few weeks ago, Tim P., Jim K. and myself (Scott H.) cut down a fir tree and dug up the stump and roots to open up the yard for the garden. We have had a lot of rain, so we put off removing the sod and "double digging" to prepare the yard for the tiller and planting; however, the grass was getting way too tall and Phyllis' potted tomatoes are in serious need to transplanting soon, so even though the yard was a muddy mess and digging was heavy and hard due to all the mud we dug at least 2 feet down to get nice deep well worked and loose soil for a variety of root crops, carrots, parsnips, etc. Tim P. started out the day by cleaning out the Mosher's gutters as the rest of us started digging in the dirt, except Phyllis, she was busy preparing the meal. Jim was the photographer as he was the only one that remembered to take pictures so unfortunately we have no pictures of Jim. Next time Jimmy you will not be able to be so elusive.
